Fr. Abraham K
He was was born on 21st September 1944 at Pathaza, Kerala His parents are Late Joseph K. and Late Anna Joseph Kandathinkara. His native parish is Aruvithura, where he was baptized on 26th September 1944. After his early schooling and Higher Secondary studies at Irrippy High School, he joined St. Aloysius Seminary, Mangalore for Darjeeling Diocese, where he did his PUC and Philosophy. In 1969 he came for Regency to the Diocese, where he was in Gayaganga for three months and continued his studies at St. Joseph’s College, Darjeeling. He did his Theological studies at St. Albert’s Seminary, Ranchi and was ordained in Kerala on 3rd December 1974.
Fr. Abraham is a person with versatile qualities. He has written lyrics, plays , preaches, sings…..and the list goes on. He has been a great pastor in his tenure as parish priest, and a good administrator when the job fell on him. Above all he is a man of prayer and contemplation. He has been very instrumental in propagating and renewing Charismatic Spirituality in the Diocese. Hence, one can say the he is enigmatic from all perspective in life. A quick glance at his priestly ministry would read thus: May1975: Assistant in School and Parish, Pakyong Feb 1976: Co-Pastor, Gitdubling, April 1981: In charge of Swiss Welfare Dairy, Kalimpong, May 1985: Pastor, Fagu – Gorubathan, May 1992 – 1993: Formators Course at NVSC, Pune, June 993: Hostel Prefect and Treasurer at St. Augustine’s School, Kalimpong, July 1994: Director, Pushpika Pastoral Center, Kalimpong, April 1996: Pastor, Pudung, July 1999: Pastor, Jorethang, July 2001: Course in Theology of Spirituality and Catecheses, NBCLC, Bangalore, July 2003 till date: Director, Pushpika, Director of Catechists and Coordinator of Diocesan Charismatic Core Group. With a variety of ministry Fr. Abraham is a very seasoned priest of the diocese.
His message to the Clergy and the Laity is the Gospel Message ‘Be perfect, just as your heavenly Father is perfect” (Mt 5:48) About his vocation to he priesthood he says he had been praying for vocations to priesthood from his school days and no wonder he himself became a glaring example of the same. We thank God for the gift of Fr. Abraham and wish him fruitful ministry in all the day to come.
