GOLDEN JUBILEE

celebrated the sacerdotal golden jubilee of Fr Charles Mukhia on 7th December at St. Teresa Church, 8th Mile, Kalimpong. Twenty priests both religious and diocesan, over a hundred religious sisters and more than 200 faithful were present on the occasion. In his homily Fr Charles emphasized on the most important and urgent task of spreading the Gospel, which is in fact the mandate given by Christ to all his followers. The enchanting choir led by Br. Alexis and the Minor seminarians added much devotion to the celebration. Fr Charles was full of gratitude to the Bishop, the diocese, the host parish, members of the organizing committee and the faithful from different parishes of the diocese who were present to celebrate the event. After the Mass, a simple felicitation programme was organized on the corridor of the Church. On behalf of the entire diocese Fr Frederick Lepcha expressed a loving Golden Jubilee tribute to the jubilarian followed by garlanding and cutting of the jubilee cake.
Fr Charles has been a pioneer of many a mission in the diocese. In his fifty years of priestly life Fr Charles worked for the holistic development of the people. His interest in evangelization, education, agriculture and social work has helped him achieve much success in his priestly life. At present he is busy writing the history of the diocese.
