LITTLE STARS DANCE COMPETITION

The Diocesan Little Stars ...

Dance Completion organized by the Diocesan Holy Childhood Commission was held at St. Augustine’s School auditorium on 7th January. The day’s programme began with the procession of the Bible, proclamation of the Word of God and prayer by Sr. Carmella Chamling, SJC, secretary of the Holy Childhood Commission. Bishop Stephen Lepcha, was the chief guest and Sr. Anna Lepcha, SJC, Provincial of the Sisters of St. Joseph’s of Cluny was the guest of honour. Besides there were many priests, religious and well wishers present for the competition.  Extending a warm welcome to all, Fr Swid Singh, director of Pontifical Mission Society briefed about the purpose of Dance Competition for children. Mr. Vicky Darnal, Ms. Reshmi Rasaily and Sr. Sushanta Chettri, SJC were the judges for the competition. There were fourteen competitors for the final.

In the keenly contested final held on the elimination round basis Eliseba Lepcha with 242 points romped home with the winner’s booty. Victoria Rai with 234 points settled for the second place while Yojna Subba with 225 points took home the last prize for grabs. The champion’s trophy was donated by Kalimpong deanery and the cash awards were given by Bishop Stephen Lepcha and Sr. Anna Lepcha. All the distinguished guests, judges and participants were given a memento too by the chief guest. He also gave certificates to all the participants.

To add more colour and taste to the day’s programme, Ivan Lepcha from St. Paul Church, Tadong, the onetime Bal Tara ‘Little Champ of Sikkim’ performed two beautiful songs and won the hearts of all present. Bishop Stephen Lepcha, the chief guest in his speech appreciated the efforts taken by the Holy Childhood Commission in helping the children to exhibit their hidden talents. Sr. Anna Lepcha, too expressed her great joy in witnessing such talents given by God to children. Sr. Carmella proposed the vote of thanks. The entire programme was anchored by Fr Frederick Lepcha.
